Reading Tutoring for Arizona ESA Families
For kids who aren't where they should be yet.
Reading is the foundation of all learning. When a child struggles to read, every subject suffers. Our tutors specialize in helping struggling readers build real skills — phonics, fluency, and comprehension — so they can finally access the education they deserve.
Why Some Kids Struggle with Reading
Reading isn't natural — it's a skill that must be taught. And for many children, especially those with learning differences, the way reading is typically taught in schools doesn't work. They need explicit, systematic instruction that most classrooms don't provide.
Signs your child may need reading support:
- • Guesses at words based on first letter or pictures instead of sounding out
- • Reads slowly and laboriously, losing meaning along the way
- • Can read words but can't answer questions about what they read
- • Avoids reading, makes excuses, or becomes upset when asked to read
- • Falls further behind each year despite "intervention" at school
If this sounds familiar, your child isn't lazy or unintelligent — they need different instruction. That's what we provide.
Building Real Reading Skills
Our approach follows the science of reading — explicit, systematic phonics instruction that builds skills in the right order. We don't teach kids to guess. We teach them to read.
Phonemic Awareness
The ability to hear and manipulate individual sounds in words. This is the foundation — if it's weak, everything built on top will wobble.
Phonics
Systematic instruction in how letters and letter combinations represent sounds. We teach patterns explicitly, not through guessing or memorization.
Fluency
Reading accurately, with appropriate speed and expression. Fluency is the bridge between decoding and comprehension — without it, reading remains exhausting.
Vocabulary
Building word knowledge so comprehension becomes possible. We teach vocabulary in context and through explicit instruction.
Comprehension
Understanding what's read. We teach strategies for making meaning — asking questions, summarizing, making connections — once decoding is solid.
